the discovery of the new world by Christopher Columbus is commemorated on October 12 and is called día de la raza throughout Hispanic America. It is a day increasingly dedicated to the celebration and affirmation of the historical, cultural and religious bonds that unite all Hispanic peoples; therefore, it is also called el día de la hispanidad.
