Fiesta de santa fe

the September fiesta de santa fe recalls the “bloodless re-conquest” of new mexico by don diego de vargas, thirteen years after the rebellion. There is remarkable pageantry of people in costumes of the different historical groups of new mexico. There are luminaries and an evening procession to the hill of martyrs, honoring the missionaries martyred during the evangelization of new mexico. Other September festivities in new mexico recall the exploration and settlement of juan de oÑate in 1598.
