Los hermanos de nuestro padre jesús nazareno

in northern new mexico, there is an association of los hermanos de nuestro padre jesús nazareno (the brothers of our father jesus the Nazarene), often simply called los penitentes (the penitents), who are dedicated to devotion to jesus of nazareth and to the service of others. They commemorate the sufferings of jesus at the hour of his death and are especially active in holy week functions. The activities of this fraternal society are among the oldest expressions of popular piety in this country.
