September 14 is the feast of the holy cross, which is especially meaningful to the people of new
mexico. The old Spanish missionaries
started the evangelization process marking with wooden crosses the hills and
river crossings. La santacruz(The holy cross) became the chief Christian symbol of the
newly converted areas.
