Los peregrinos

during las posadas, a procession is formed in a neighborhood area
with the people holding lighted candles accompanying two persons who either
represent Joseph and mary which people call los peregrinos. The
procession stops at three or four preselected houses
at whose doors a song asking for posada
(lodging) is sung. Part of the choir, acting as innkeepers and hosts, answers
from within the house saying that there is no room for them. In the last house
selected for the evening, the holy pilgrims are accepted and there follows a
joyful celebration with pastries, hot chocolate and singing. On the final
night, the posada may end at the parish
church grounds.
