going to church on el miércoles de ceniza (Ash Wednesday) is an act of manliness, machismo, to face death, to accept that we shall return to dust, and that human beings fall short of their commitment to god. Ash Wednesday is a day to profess publicly and simply that we are Christians, that we have been baptized and belong to Christ.
