Padrinos - baptism

the name given to the child is often that of the saint whose
feast day was on the day of birth. Sometimes the name is taken from the
parents, grandparents or godparents. The baptism is a special occasion to
create new relationships, for the padrinos (godparents) of the child will become the compadres of the
parents, and from then on will be linked by a special bond of friendship. Sometimes
the role of the padrinos
and compadres
is exaggerated to the impoverishment of the rightful role of the parents when,
for example, godparents bring the child for baptism while the parents remain at
home.
